Type Locality and Naming

Term from downhole logging to due high organic content, hence higher Uranium and high (“hot”) gamma signature?

Synonym: It is also known as the Argiles de Tiounkeline Fm in the Ahnet Basin region, and Argiles a Graptolites Fm (Argiles à Graptolites Fm) in the Mouydir Basin region (see Fig. 3 of van Dijk et al., 2019).

Lithology and Thickness

The Hot Shales Fm is made up of massive shales, and it is laterally equivalent to the lower part of Argiles de Oued Ali Fm. of the Reggane Basin (van Dijk et al., 2019).

Lower contact

It unconformably overlies the Felar Felar Fm (Ahnet Basin) or the M’Kratta El Golea Fm (Mouydir Basin)

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Zone de Passage Fm.
